Bafana Bafana have experienced a setback following the withdrawal of Orlando Pirates defender Lucas Thwala from the provisional Confederations Cup squad due to injury. Following the mandatory medical tests taken by all national team players when they arrived in camp on Wednesday 13 May 2009, it was discovered that Thwala had a calf injury. This was further confirmed by a specialist whom the player was referred to by the Bafana Bafana medical team to obtain a second opinion on the extent of the injury. In light of the above it has been recommended that Thwala should abstain from any physical activity for a period of two weeks during which time he will be getting daily treatment.
In his place the technical team has called up Mzuvukile Tom of Golden Arrows Football Club who has already arrived in camp.
