With just over 3 weeks to go until the 2014 edition of the Cathsseta powered Mzansi Tour, Echelon Events are proud to announce the details of the tour finale.
Blue Hills Estate will play host to the fifth and final day of Mzansi Tour, with a european flavour as we race Belgian style around a 5,5km criterium circuit. Century Property Developments have offered the use of one of their estates, and it promises to provide the backdrop to an exciting finale.
The final stage will consist of 15 laps on the fast 5,5km circuit, which includes two climbs per lap. The circuit will suit the well-rounded riders, promising a few an exciting end to the 2014 edition of the tour.
"The circuit at Blue Hills Estate includes many corners, which will play into the favour of the technically gifted riders, although the fearless will also have an advantage" smiles Austin.
Echelon Events and Cycling South Africa are pleased to announce an exciting partnership for Sunday, 12 April 2014. Through the partnership, the race will now be open to CSA licensed riders in the Junior, Vet and Ladies categories to race on the same circuit in the morning prior to the Mzansi Tour finale.
"We are really excited to be partnering with Cycling South Africa to not only create a spectator friendly final stage, but to also provide a fantastic platform for Vets, Ladies and Juniors to race on the same circuit. Prior to the final stage, the circuit will see three other races: Vets, Ladies and Juniors. Racing takes the format of 45 minutes plus one lap” says Malcolm Lange, Echelon Events Director.

Mzansi Tour Stage 4 Start
“The Vets race will be a handicap race with Vets 50+ starting first, then Vets 40+ 1 minute later and then the Vets 30+ 1 minutes after the 40+. They are all riding for one prize, but we are giving the 50+ and 40+ handicapped starts. This way the 30+ have to make up 2 minutes on the 50+ to win the category. This format allows for multiple ages to start and gives all a chance for the win.
Furthermore, we are opening up the Junior race to U16 riders to make the racing exciting” explains Austin, Mzansi Tour Sporting Director.
“It is our intention to do what’s in the best interests of the sport, and it is most certainly a high priority for us to get the fans involved. This is the best way to achieve both these goals – by bringing racing to the people.” comments Jenni Green, Echelon Events Director.
Online entries will open this week via mzansitour.co.za.
